Fundraising Campaign in WIMA Deutschland

Immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake hit, we received countless messages asking for our safety and words of encouragement from WIMA divisions and individual members from the world.

gI just heard about the terrible earthquake and the tsunami in Japan. I am keeping fingers crossed and think of you!!h
gPlease let us know if there is anything that we can do.h
gIf someone decides or is convinced to leave, you are welcome to Germany.h

We were touched by the thoughtful kindness of our friends around the world.

Fortunately, we were able to confirm safety of our members living in Miyagi and Iwate prefectures and started support activities as WIMA Japan including collecting money, and reported the progress on Facebook. Then we heard a fundraising campaign offer from WIMA Deutschland.

We were deeply appreciative of those who offered support but in the beginning we replied to them to make donation through the Red Cross. However, our friends strongly hoped to help Japan more tangible and direct ways and we decided to help the affected people from the unaffected people beyond national borders which I believe is the bigger frame work of thinking. Thus, the fundraising campaign started in Germany.

As a result, 3,630 euro was sent to Japan from Germany. We can readily imagine that to take a lead in the campaign is not easy in WIMA Deutschland as they are collective entity of some female riders groups. Surprisingly enough, however, they proceeded the campaign swiftly and successfully with a firm intention. WIMA Japan sincerely appreciates warm friendship extended by WIMA Deutschland and their friends.

The total amount of JPY 577,869, from Germany plus Japan, was sent to local governments of Tohoku region on June 3rd, 2011.
JPY 288,935 to Disaster Countermeasures Office in Miyagi
JPY 288,934 to Relief Money Control Committee in Iwate
